I support repealing the Single Business Tax. It is out-of-date and it
hurts businesses by taxing their payroll, their inventory and the health
care insurance they provide to their employees.
While repealing the tax would reduce red tape and create a more attractive
business climate here in Michigan, doing away with the SBT entirely is
fiscally irresponsible.
The SBT contributes nearly 25 percent of the state's budget annually and
helps fund vital programs like education, health care and police and fire
protection.
We must work quickly to develop a fair replacement that won't hinder
business development.
